Kingsburg school wins National Blue Ribbon
Clay Elementary School in Kingsburg is one of 25 California schools honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017 by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.
West African school fundraiser
West African Vocational Schools will hold a dinner 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 6 at Engelmann Cellars, 3275 N. Rolinda Ave., to benefit the WAVS students and teachers of Guinea-Bissau. The event features an African dance performance, authentic West African cuisine, live music by Patrick Contreras, wine tasting and a live auction. Tickets cost $50 or $95 per couple and funds help support the vocational school that has helped more than 900 men and women with courses in auto mechanics, welding, computer basics and more.

Visalia Emergency Aid fundraiser
Visalia Emergency Aid will hold “An Evening on the Red Carpet” 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 14 at Giant Chevrolet & Cadillac, 1001 S. Ben Maddox Way in Visalia to raise money for the new Community Pantry, Family Resource Center and Education Center to be built at the current Visalia Emergency Aid site. The event features dinner, dancing and a live and silent auction. Tickets cost $75.
CASA volunteers needed
CASA of Fresno and Madera Counties is seeking court-appointed volunteers to advocate in a courtroom for abused and neglected children in Fresno and Madera counties. Information sessions will be held at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 4 and 9 a.m. Oct. 28 at 2300 Tulare St., Suite 210.
