The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash Monday that killed a 9-year-old child on Interstate 5 north of Coalinga.
The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. Monday when the driver of a Toyota Scion, Victor Flores, 31, of Concord, swerved into the other northbound lane. His vehicle then went onto the shoulder and tumbled several times down an embankment, according to CHP reports.
The vehicle overturned, ejecting the 9-year-old, who died at the scene north of Highway 145, the CHP said.
Flores and his passenger, Maria Sanchez, 30, of Concord, had minor injuries.
The CHP says that alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash.
