The Pier Fire burning in Tulare County has grown to 20,529 acres, authorities said Tuesday in a morning update.
The blaze, which began Aug. 29, is burning near the foothill town of Springville. The blaze grew by about 3,000 acres overnight, but is now 15 percent contained. Over 1,000 firefighters are assigned to battle it.
A follow-up community meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the student center of Porterville College, 100 E. College Ave., for residents affected by the fire.
U.S. Forest Service officials noted that the north side of the fire near Wishon Campground is burning downslope toward the north and middle forks of the Tule River.

Mandatory and voluntary evacuations remain in place, including for Springville.
Highway 190 east of Springville remains closed at Balch Park Road to eastbound traffic, and the highway is closed to westbound drivers north of Ponderosa at Forest Road 21S50.
Balch Park Road is closed at Highway 190 to northbound traffic, and Bear Creek Road is closed at Balch Park to eastbound traffic.
