A Chowchilla man was killed early Tuesday in a solo vehicle crash along a Highway 41 interchange in Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol said the man – identified later by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office as Marc Garner II, 36 – died at the scene after crashing his 2013 Hyundai Elantra into a large cement freeway support post. The vehicle went up in flames, according to witnesses.
The CHP said Garner left the interchange road from southbound Highway 41 and drove his car onto an area that separates the highways 180 and 168 interchange lanes, known as a gore. He eventually drove between two guardrails before slamming into the post. The speed of the driver was not determined Tuesday.
Never miss a local story.
Garner was eastbound toward Highway 168 as he drove off the Highway 41 interchange lane. As a result of the crash, the vehicle overturned and blocked all traffic on that lane. The crash was reported around 4:30 a.m.
The CHP said it’s still not sure if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
