A Tipton man was killed Sunday morning when he failed to brake for a stop sign and was hit by cross traffic in Tipton, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The 56-year-old man was driving a 2011 Ford south on Callison Road about 6:15 a.m. when he failed to stop for a stop sign on Callison Road at Highway 190. He drove into the path of a 2015 Chevrolet, which was heading east on Highway 190 at about 55 mph. The Chevrolet hit the front of the Ford, causing it to spin, which threw the Tipton man from the vehicle and onto the highway. The man, who was not named, died at the scene. The CHP said he was not wearing his seat belt.
The Chevrolet driver, 45-year-old James Dumont of Porterville, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, the CHP said.
