A 33-year-old Visalia man died Sunday night when the 1997 Honda he was driving crashed into a canal south of Visalia, the California Highway Patrol reported. Two women in the car managed to escape. The CHP said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
The crash took place about 10 p.m. as the driver was eastbound on Avenue 272 approaching Road 140 when he did not negotiate a left curve, drove off the roadway and into the canal.
Jeanine Jeter, 28, of Orosi, and Jennifer Rivera, 26, of Visalia managed to get out of the car and reach the canal bank. The driver, who was unidentified pending notification of family, was able to get out of the Honda, but could not swim to safety.
