A large limb fell from an oak tree through the roof of a Visalia home on Monday rendering the residence uninhabitable, Visalia Fire officials reported.
The incident was reported about 5:25 p.m. in the 1800 block of West Greenacres Avenue. Nobody was inside the home at the time.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered fallen tree limbs atop the home and significant damage, as well as a pungent smell of gas, said Battalion Chief Dustin Hall.
Firefighters shut off the gas, electricity, sewer and water lines, but “there was massive damage to the structure,” Hall said.
The oak limb that struck the home was about 3 1/2 feet in diameter, Hall said.
The home has an approximate value of $650,000 and has sustained approximately $75,000 in damages, Hall said.
