A woman killed Monday afternoon when she crashed head-on into a pickup on Highway 41 near Children’s Boulevard in Madera County was identified by the Madera County Sheriff-Coroner’s office as Sharon Marie Mangeri, 50, of Fresno.
The crash took place after a CHP officer attempted to pull Mangeri over for a traffic violation. Additional information from the CHP about the incident was unavailable.
Around 3 p.m. Monday, a CHP officer spotted a tan sedan driving north on Highway 41 near Children's Boulevard at a fast speed. Traffic southbound was heavy, but Mangeri swerved her vehicle into the southbound lane as the CHP officer pursued her, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Josh McConnell. She hit a blue Chevrolet sedan, spun out of control, then collided head-on with a gray Dodge.
McConnell said the Chevrolet and Dodge drivers sustained minor injures, and did not need to go to the hospital. Mangeri died at the scene.
It was unknown if alcohol was a factor, and the crash remains under investigation, McConnell said.
