Children were being sent home from Orange Center Elementary School after a gas line ruptured Wednesday.
A Fresno County sheriff’s spokesman said a private contractor broke what was described as a 5-inch steel gas line.
The school is on South Cherry Avenue, north of East Central Avenue. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Workers from Pacific Gas & Electric and Fresno County Fire Department were at the scene.
