Friday morning update: Florida Power and Light canceled its mutual aid request after Hurricane Matthew swung wide of the state, Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokesman Denny Boyles said.
Original story: Twenty Pacific Gas and Electric workers from the Fresno area are heading east to Florida to repair damages that are expected when Hurricane Matthew hits the state, PG&E spokesman Denny Boyles said Thursday.
Late Wednesday, Florida Power and Light asked PG&E to send 100 line workers to help restore customers whose electricity will be cut off or interrupted by the Category 4 hurricane, Boyles said. Matthew is taking aim at Florida’s central coast on the Atlantic Ocean before heading northward.
The Fresno-area workers were expected to leave Fresno around noon Thursday and head to Sacramento before traveling east, Boyles said.

Mutual aid is provided through utility companies’ emergency response plans, he said.
