The rider of a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle was killed early Tuesday in a head-on collision in Madera County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred at 7:10 a.m. as the 23-year-old rider was was southbound on Highway 145 approaching Avenue 11. Crisistomo M. Leal, 55, of Orosi was northbound on Highway 145 in a Toyota Tacoma. The CHP said Leal was making a left turn onto westbound Avenue 11 and drove into the path of the motorcycle.
The rider had no time to avoid the crash and died at the scene. Leal complained of pain after the crash but was not taken to a hospital.
Leal told officers that he thought the rider was going to turn eastbound onto Avenue 11. The CHP said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The rider, from Madera, was not identified pending notification of family.

Update: The motorcycle rider killed was identified Thursday as Miguel Santiago Martinez, 23, of Madera.
