A man is dead after crashing his car into a dry canal south of Tulare on Thursday.
Sgt. Michael Wolfe with the Visalia area California Highway Patrol said that just after 5 p.m., a man was traveling north on Road 124 north of Road 200 when his Chevy Cavalier drifted onto the east shoulder of the road.
Wolfe said the man’s car struck a power pole and metal guardrail before sliding into a dry ditch where it overturned and crushed the roof of the vehicle, pinning the man.
The driver, appearing to be in his mid 60s, died at the scene, Wolfe said.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash and the man was wearing a seat belt, Wolfe said. The man’s identity is being withheld until family is notified.
