The Madera District Fair kicked off a month of Valley fair dates when it opened its gates at 5 p.m. Thursday.
The fair, under the theme “Small Town Fair, Big Time Fun,” continues through Sunday with a variety of exhibits, livestock displays and contests, nightly concerts, carnival games and rides, and – of course – fair food vendors.
Following on Madera’s heels will be the Tulare County Fair, Sept. 14-18; the Caruthers District Fair, Sept. 28-Oct. 1; and the Big Fresno Fair, Oct. 5-16.
General admission for the Madera District Fair is $8; senior citizens (62 and older) and children ages 6-12, $4; and children 5 and younger, free. A season pass is $20.
Rancho San Miguel Markets Day is Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. It allows children 12 and younger free fair admission and offers carnival wristbands at buy one, get one free.
Concerts include Montgomery Gentry at 8 p.m. Friday; Bret Michaels at 8 p.m. Saturday; and Calibre50 at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20-$25 plus fair admission.
