Veronica Stumpf is not your typical commercial real estate broker.
The eclectic 24-year-old Fresno State grad looks more like an artist than an expert in office, retail, industrial and multifamily properties. She studied economics, but after graduating in 2011 she got her broker’s license and joined her father’s real estate business – Stumpf and Company.
Now, she’s giving people a look at real estate through her eyes on “That Fresno Blog” (www.thatfresnoblog.com) and other social media sites. Stumpf, who started the blog five years ago, relaunched the online journal last week with a new look, a new logo, and some new ways to share her passion for downtown Fresno, revitalization, buildings and businesses.
“Being a salesperson and a real estate person requires a lot of creativity especially when you’re listing a property,” Stumpf said. “The blog is a creative approach for marketing Fresno and marketing the real estate market and listings.”
Never miss a local story.
Stumpf grew up working alongside her father in properties the family business managed over the years. She remembers picking up trash and painting offices and other spaces when a tenant moved out and before another moved in. Stumpf never thought she would join the company, but it was a natural fit.
“Real estate has an impact on everybody and talking about real estate is something that comes natural to me,” she said.
On the blog, Stumpf will post about her journey to becoming a real estate broker – one of the few Fresno women in the commercial real estate industry including sister, Alex. She will profile the people and businesses investing in Fresno, development plans that may change the landscape and some personal stories about her love of swing dance, travel and photography.
She posts pictures of downtown Fresno and the art scene on Instagram and often tweets from community meetings she attends. Stumpf lives in the Mural District.
The blog has gained a strong following of downtown residents and employees. While touring the grand opening of a downtown Fresno apartment complex some months ago, visitors pointed her out as the “That Fresno Blog” girl. Armed with her phone and a notebook at various downtown events, Stumpf can easily be mistaken for a journalist and often takes more photos, videos and notes than even I do.
She joked during our interview that early blog readers were confused about what she did for a living. But with some refinement, Stumpf said she’s found her voice and people know what she does.
“Success does not happen overnight,” she said. “I’ve learned not to be like other people in my field. I can learn from them, but you have to tailor your career in a way that makes you passionate about what you do and like what you do.”
