A housing program is looking for Valley veterans who need a home and supportive services such as help with electric bills and rent.
San Joaquin Valley Veterans, a project of Westcare California, helps veterans and their families secure permanent housing and provides them with short-term assistance with electric bills, rental assistance, deposits and housing counseling.
Westcare, a nonprofit that provides health and human services, received $6 million from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs in June to fund the program over the next three years.
Under the grant, the program will help low-income veteran families who are looking for a home, those who are homeless but are scheduled to move into a permanent home and veterans who are already in a home but need a little help.
