New home construction is picking up in Sanger two years after the city council eliminated development fees to encourage builders to finish abandoned and unfinished subdivisions.
Five residential developments are under now under construction in almost every corner of the small city east of Fresno, the city announced early this week. And an 81-unit affordable apartment community will soon break ground.
Sacramento-based Evergreen Communities was among the first to take advantage of the city incentive in 2012 when it announced plans to revive the 187-lot Royal Woods neighborhood in the city’s northwest area, near Reagan Elementary School. Now, the builder has added Walnut Grove, south of Royal Woods and across Jensen Avenue, to its list of developments.
Monterey Homes is building entry-level houses southeast of the city. Lennar Homes is building in Stonehaven, northwest of the city and the gated Mansionette Palisades II community is under construction, by Wathen Group Real Estate Development, in north-central Sanger.
D.R. Horton and Lennar plan to build on another 600 lots, the city said.
The apartment complex will be built on the northeast corner of North Avenue and J streets. A ground breaking is planned before Christmas.
