A growing senior population is fueling a demand for high-end senior housing and assisted living communities in the Fresno and Clovis area.
There are at least three luxury senior housing developments under construction or nearly finished in the Fresno and Clovis area. A longtime and popular community, The Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens, just completed a $120 million renovation. It looks like a Tuscan resort.
Senior living is swanky these days with fine dining areas, spas, gyms, and more. Read my story here about the changing trends.
One thing the story doesn't touch on is the cost to live in one of these places. Remember these are luxury housing communities which means the cost is high. The monthly rent varies from place to place and by service which made it hard to whittle down into one overall figure in the story.
Here’s some information for two of the featured communities that might help you understand the costs:
Rates at Carmel Village at Clovis start around $3,200 a month which includes supportive health services. It also includes three meals a day, utilities, weekly housekeeping including flat linen service, activities and covers the cost of maintenance around the development. Of course residents are responsible for things like cable and phone services.
The Terraces at San Joaquin is unique because it’s a Continuing Care Retirement Community. There is an upfront fee or cost in addition to monthly rent depending on the type of housing and service needed. There’s dozens of different rates, but the community works with tenants from every economic level, said Jessica Lopez, the executive director.
The Terraces also has a guarantee for residents so if there is a traumatic health event or financial problem affecting a resident’s ability to pay, they will be never be asked to leave, Lopez said.
