Two Fresno Housing Authority programs have received national merit awards for enhancing the lives of their residents.

The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment recognized the authority's Kindergarten Readiness and Learn2Earn programs during its summer conference in Tampa, Fla., on July 17.

Kindergarten Readiness is a 22-week program conducted in partnership with Every Neighborhood Partnership, a nonprofit, to teach 4- and 5-year-olds the concepts they need for kindergarten.

Learn2Earn educates and trains residents who want to earn their GED, change careers or go to college. Nearly 100 people have completed the program or are on their way to finding jobs.
