BoNhia Lee on what's going down and going up in the Valley market

Ron Shapazian, owner of Shapazian Realty and chairman of the Fresno multiple listing service, died Monday after a brief illness. He was 69.

Mr. Shapazian was a member of the Fresno Association of Realtors since 1988 and spent many years serving on a variety of committees and projects.

“He always attended a lot of the educational sessions,” said Sandy Darling, sales manager for the Fig Garden Village branch of Guarantee Real Estate, who attended Sanger High School with Shapazian and was a longtime friend.

Mr. Shapazian trained to be on the association’s professional standards and grievance committee and taught gun safety classes at the association.

“He was a good man — a man of integrity and complete trust,” said John Shamshoian, broker and owner of Realty Concepts in Fresno.

Mr. Shapazian was an officer in the U.S. Navy and worked at Sun Maid Raisins and New York Life. He started Shapazian Realty in 1993.

Besides spending a lot of time in real estate, Mr. Shapazian was a member of Triple X, a spiritual band, and loved BMW motorcycles.

He is survived by his wife, Marti, daughter, Natalie, a granddaughter and a brother.

“Ron was like a big teddy bear,” Darling said. “He always had a smile on his face. He always had a wonderful sense of humor and was very friendly. He was a good friend to a lot of people.”
