Airfares at Fresno Yosemite International Airport ranked in the upper 25% of fares among the nation’s 100 largest airports in the fourth quarter of last year.
The U.S. Department of Transportation this week released its statistics measuring average airfares. At FYI, the average domestic itinerary — the total ticket cost to fly from Fresno to another U.S. destination, including connecting flights in between — cost $433. The figure includes round trips as well as one-way flights. That was the 25th highest in the country, and $20 higher than in the fourth quarter of 2013.
But when fares are adjusted for inflation, Fresno’s fares in late 2014 are about 17% lower now than they were in 2000.
The highest airfares in the nation in the fourth quarter last year were reported at Madison, Wisconsin, where the average itinerary for passengers flying from Dane County Regional Airport was $505. The lowest average airfare was $99 at the Orlando Sanford International Airport in Sanford, Florida.
Within California, San Francisco International Airport ranked 10th in the nation with an average itinerary of $455. Los Angeles International Airport’s average domestic itinerary of $435 ranked 19th in the nation.
