Fresno’s RV king Dan Gamel is back. But he’s not selling recreational vehicles.
Gamel is helping auto, boat and RV dealerships catch up with the times and go mobile with a smartphone app and business software system that creates a faster and more pleasurable buying experience.
“Thirty-five years ago, I was given a piece of a paper and a pencil,” Gamel said. “It’s the same tool, the same process now.”
Gamel launched his app, My Foursquare Anywhere, in January. It was a program more than a decade in the making. At the height of his success, Gamel started looking for a way to work with his dealers on RV sales in real time. None of this walking back and forth to negotiate prices with managers, leaving possible buyers alone, he said.
Never miss a local story.
But the technology wasn’t there. Then the economy got stiff and Gamel’s businesses fell on hard times. He sold his RV empire in 2004. When smartphones and mobile technology hit the scene, Gamel dug out his ideas for a software system and hit the ground running.
The app allows salespeople to estimate the value of a trade, negotiate prices with a desk manager, submit an offer online and finalize a sale, all without leaving a customer to wander the lot or have second thoughts.
“Our industry is stuck in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s when it comes to providing tools for their sales people,” Gamel said.
“I’ve given them a tool to better serve their clients.”
