A Madera County farming company and the federal government have entered into a voluntary agreement to self-monitor the farmer's labor practices and those of the labor contractors it hires.
Officials with Agriland Farming Co. of Chowchilla and the U.S. Department of Labor signed the agreement Wednesday. The voluntary agreement focuses on making sure the laws protecting worker health, safety and work environment are being followed.
Agriland is the third largest nut grower in the U.S. and also a farm-management company specializing in permanent crops.
Agriland officials said they entered into the agreement to better coordinate the company's efforts with those of the Department of Labor, as well as set an example for other agriculture employers in the San Joaquin Valley.
