After years at Kearney Park, the annual Renaissance Faire organized by the St. Giles Guild -- a local group of Renaissance enthusiasts -- moved this year to the opposite end of Fresno: Sycamore Island on the San Joaquin River.

The fair that features performers and visitors in mid-16th-century costumes changed locations this year because Fresno County increased its rental fee for Kearney Park, said organizer Joyce Roberts. The festival retained the "Kearney Park" name this year, Roberts said, to maintain continuity for visitors so they'd know it's the same event, but in a different location.

The fair featured re-enactors of battle scenes, such as a border war involving Henry VIII of England "sending troops to Scotland to retaliate against border raids" by the Scots. Organizers hoped to attract 2,500 people. But the weekend's cool, rainy weather kept attendance down. Organizers said about 1,500 people came to the fair, which ended Sunday at 5 p.m.
