Armenian program at CSUF to host lecture

Fresno State's Armenian Studies Program will host a lecture with Azat Yeghiazaryan speaking on "The Armenian Folk Epic of David of Sasun" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fresno State, Leon and Pete Peters Educational Center Auditorium. Parking is available in the Save Mart Center lot.

Golf program targets youths

The First Tee of Fresno will hold a grand opening of its facility at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Golf Course, 7492 N. Bryan Ave. The program serves youths ages 7-18 and provides golf instruction infused with life skills.

College seeks WWII vets

Fresno City College is seeking World War II veterans to be part of the college's Veterans Day Ceremony at noon Friday in front of the Veterans Peace Memorial in the free speech area between the cafeteria and the bookstore.

Professor to speak Friday

Fresno State's Department of Mass Communication and Journalism will host Robert Jensen, a University of Texas journalism professor, speaking on "Patriotism and Journalism in the Era of Globalization" at 2 p.m. Friday at Fresno State, Alice Peters Auditorium.

Kerman church plans benefit

Kerman United Methodist Church will hold "For Heaven's Sake" 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 3095 N. Madera Ave., Kerman. Gently used items, including clothing, will be available. Proceeds benefit church outreach programs.

Film contest entries sought

The Armenian Studies Program of Fresno State is seeking entries for the 10th annual Golden Raisin Armenian Film Festival to be held in Spring 2009. Films may be up to one hour long, in any language, any topic, and in DVD format. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 15.

Donation helps children

The San Joaquin Consortium received a $50,000 donation from the Wal-Mart Foundation to further develop its Childhood Immunization Registry Partnership that works toward protecting children against vaccine-preventable diseases. The nonprofit organization is focused on improving health care in Central California.

Agencies receive award

Big Brother Big Sisters of Central California is one of 10 agencies to receive the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America/Annie E. Casey Foundation Family Strengthening Award. The award goes to organizations that help children beat negative odds by engaging and empowering parents and families. The agency will receive $12,500.
