Where Measure C money is going

The Measure C sales tax is expected to produce more than $1.7 billion in revenue over the next 20 years. Roughly equal shares are dedicated to major streets and highways, public transit and local uses such as street maintenance.

Here are some of the things that Measure C money is paying for, or is expected to.

Major urban streets and highways

  • Highways 41/168/180 ramp improvements
  • Willow Avenues six-lane, Barstow to Copper avenues (includes bike paths)
  • Temperance Avenue four-lane Bullard to Shepherd avenues
  • Ventura Boulevard four-lane, Highways 41 to 99
  • Monterey Street bridge, downtown Fresno
  • California Avenue four-lane, Ventura Street to West Avenue
  • Peach Avenue four-lane, Highway 180 to Jensen Avenue
  • Highway 41 auxiliary lanes and ramp improvements, Tulare to O streets
  • Herndon Avenue six-lane, Highway 99 to DeWolf Avenue (includes bike paths)
  • Shaw Avenue six-lane, Sunnyside to McCall avenues
  • Highway 99 interchange, North & Cedar avenues
  • Veterans Boulevard, Herndon to Grantland avenues
* Highway 180 Clovis-Temperance, construction starts March
* Highway 180 Hughes/West-Brawley, under construction

  • Highway 180 passing lanes, Yuba to James avenues
  • Highway 180 east two-lane, Academy to Frankwood avenues
  • Friant Road 4-lane, Copper Avenue to Millerton Road
  • Golden State Boulevard improvements, American Avenue to Tulare County line
  • Highway 269 bridge and channel, north of Huron
  • Highway 180 west three-lane to I-5
  • Mountain View Avenue four-lane, Bethel Avenue to Tulare County line
  • Mendocine Avenue four-lane, Parlier
  • Highway 99, American interchange improvement
  • I-5 and Highway 198 interchange improvement

Fresno airports

  • Runway and other improvements at Fresno-Yosemite International and Fresno Chandler airports

Fresno Area Express

  • Free fares for riders 65 and older
  • Continuation of 15-minute service on routes 28, 20, 34 and 38
  • Van pool program subsidy

Clovis Transit

  • Free fares for riders 65 and older
  • New weekend service on fixed routes

Fresno County Rural Transit Agency

  • Added service for Firebaugh, Fowler, Kingsburg and other routes
  • Eleven new buses
  • Free fares for riders 65 and older

Public Transportation Infrastructure Study/Transit Consolidation Study

  • Develop long-range plans for metropolitan area and rural public transit

Local allocation subprogram (allocated to 15 cities and county)

  • Street maintenance
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance
  • Flexible funding

Pedestrian/trails subprogram

  • Urban (allocated to two cities and county)
  • Rural (allocated to 13 cities and county)

Bicycle facilities subprogram (allocated to 15 cities and county)

Plans being developed for:

  • Farmworker van pools
  • Commuter car/van pools
  • New technology reserve
  • Rail consolidation
  • School bus replacement
  • Transit-oriented infrastructure
