Local briefs: Merced man shot in head
Merced police responded to a shooting just after 6 p.m. Monday.
Robert Briggs, 29, was shot in the head while listening to music near his car in front of his home, police and family members said. He did not know who shot him, said police Lt. Matt Williams.
Williams said police initially thought they were responding to a drive-by shooting. In an interview with officers, Briggs said he noticed a suspicious silver car in the area moments before he was approached by a man on foot and then shot in the back of the head.

Local briefs: Visalia police arrest 2 boys in carjacking
Two boys were arrested late Wednesday in connection with a carjacking in Visalia, police reported.
According to Visalia police, a 20-year-old Visalia woman was driving in the area of Acequia Avenue and Bridge Street about 10:30 p.m. when two men came up to her car. One pulled out a weapon and forced her into the back seat, and the other got in the passenger seat. They drove her to a bank and forced her to withdraw money from an ATM. Later, they told her to get out of the car and drove away.
Visalia police found the car in Goshen and arrested the two juveniles on suspicion of carjacking and kidnapping. One is a suspect in another carjacking last week, police said.

Visalia bank robbery suspect sought
Police are looking for a man who robbed a Bank of America in Visalia on Wednesday.
The man, wearing an orange cap and dark clothing, walked into the bank on the 2400 block of South Mooney Boulevard about 10:15 a.m. and stood around for a while before handing a teller a note, police said.
The robber walked out of the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Boy, 16, fatally shot in SW Visalia
A 16-year-old boy was shot to death Tuesday night in southwest Visalia, police said.
Officers were sent to a neighborhood near Dorothea Avenue and Chinowth Street just after 10 p.m. to check reports of gunshots. They found the victim, Marcus Corral, with gunshot wounds but still alive. Corral was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he died.

Visalia shoe store robbed
Two armed men robbed a Red Wing Shoe Store in Visalia on Thursday evening, police said.
The robbers entered the store at 3320 S. Mooney Boulevard about 6 p.m. and left with an unspecified amount of money. No other details were available.
A 26-year-old Visalia man was shot in the stomach Thursday night in north Visalia, police reported. The gunman has not been captured.
Police say the victim was sitting in front of a house on the 1600 block of West Harold Avenue with a friend when the gunman walked by about 9:30 p.m. and fired three shots.
The victim was taken to Kaweah Delta Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Further details about his condition were not available.
