The Sierra Kings District Hospital board in Reedley has a new chairwoman.

Kathleen Omachi, a community organizer, replaces Trish Johnson, a nurse educator. Johnson had been under pressure from the community to relinquish the role. She voluntarily stepped down as chairwoman at a board meeting Thursday. She remains a board member.

On Thursday, the board also voted to terminate chief operating officer Pamela Ott for cause. Ott had been on unpaid administrative leave since September, when board members learned she faced felony elder-abuse charges in connection with her previous employment in Kern County.

The board hired consultants to run the hospital this fall. The tax-supported hospital has a $3 million debt and filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection Oct. 8.
