Roberta Asahina, professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Fresno State, will be the second person inducted into the department's Alumni and Friends Chapter Hall of Fame.

Ceremonies are set for tonight at the Smittcamp Alumni House, where the chapter also will honor 20 student scholarship recipients for 2009-10.

Asahina joined the department in 1984 as its first female faculty member. She has served 26 years as the department's advertising professor and is being honored for her work in preparing students to become part of the region's advertising profession.

Last year, retired Fresno Bee publisher and President Ray Steele Jr. was the first inductee into the Hall of Fame.
