Projects in the central San Joaquin Valley will receive nearly $60 million out of $717 million in grants and loans that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently announced.
The money comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and state funds, according to a news release from the Governor's Office on Thursday. It will benefit 160 water projects throughout California.
The funds are meant to stimulate the state's economy, save and create jobs, and protect public health and the environment. The funds are targeted to projects in communities that might not normally be able to qualify for assistance, according to the Governor's Office.
The awards in the central San Joaquin Valley include (figures rounded):
* Herndon town water project, Fresno, $825,000.
* Herndon town and Cortland/Fountain Way sewer system, Fresno, $999,468.
* Parlier water-meter project, Parlier, $3.2 million.
* Waste-water treatment plant expansion and upgrade, Kerman, $7 million.
* Storm-water projects, Selma, $3.9 million.
* Waste-water facility improvement project, London Community Services District, Tulare County, $1.1 million.
* Waste-water plant upgrade and expansion, Merced, $35 million.
* Replacement well, Pioneer Elementary School, Kings County, $1.5 million.
* Municipal water system arsenic mitigation project, Lemoore, $5.8 million.
