Fresno County sheriff's detectives are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman found Monday afternoon at a home north of Sanger.
Sheriff's spokesman Chris Curtice said a woman called 911 from the house at 3436 N. Greenwood Ave. about 1 p.m. Arriving deputies found the woman alive, but with injuries to her neck and torso. Deputies also found a man dead with head injuries.
Curtice would not provide additional information about their injuries.
Paramedics aided the woman and loaded her into an ambulance, but she died in the ambulance, Curtice said.
The man and the woman were both found in a bedroom, but Curtice said he did not know their relationship. He said deputies are treating the case as a homicide investigation.
The names and ages of the man and woman were not released by sheriff's detectives Monday afternoon.
A group of people who knew the victims came to the street after getting word of their deaths. The group sat in the shade of an orange grove across the quiet rural street from the house, under the care of a sheriff's chaplain, who said they did not want to comment.
Neighbors Don and Peggy Lake, who have lived on Greenwood Avenue for 35 years, said a man and woman moved into the house about a year ago.
Tiffany Fletcher, who lives around the corner, said the man and woman were "quiet people." But Fletcher and the Lakes said they never met the couple.
