Expired tag leads to Fresno gun arrest
A man with a loaded .45-caliber pistol was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon by a Fresno police officer who noticed the car he was driving had an invalid registration sticker.
Sgt. Richard Tucker said the officer saw the 26-year-old man driving in a suspicious manner near Woodward and Cedar avenues in southeast Fresno. With a computer check, the officer determined that although the car's license plate bore a 2010 yellow tag, the vehicle's registration was expired.
When the officer pulled the man over, she reportedly learned that his driver's license had been suspended for driving under the influence. The man also admitted to the officer that he had a Ruger .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol in his waistband, authorities said.

SF police to ease unlicensed driver policy
San Francisco police are easing a policy that requires officers to impound the vehicles of drivers caught without a license - a move expected to help illegal immigrants.
The revised policy, which takes effect next month, gives unlicensed drivers 20 minutes after they are pulled over to have a licensed and insured driver move their vehicle. If not, the vehicle can be towed, but only with the approval of a supervisory officer.
"This is an attempt to try to enhance public safety," said San Francisco Police Chief George Gascon, who took over the department in August.

Nothing distracts drivers like children in car
I just witnessed a lady pushing a shopping cart while talking on her cell phone with a toddler sitting up in the seat.
As I watched, she steered the cart into a curb, startling the toddler, who was shaken up by the impact.
I'm not in favor of the ban on cell phone use while driving a car, since two screaming children in the back seat of a car fighting over whose turn it is to sit in the front seat is more of a distraction to the driver than any cell phone conversation may be.

The restaurant at Palm and Nees avenues can continue to operate but is barred from selling alcohol from June 29 through July 8.
Jason Montgomery, supervising investigator for the ABC office in Fresno, said Roe’s license was suspended after a string of incidents at the restaurant including public intoxication and assault.
Roe’s owner, Nichols Tarjoman, said the restaurant has heightened its security and instituted a dress code.
