Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer is seeking the public's help in locating Gustavo Rios, 25, a person of interest wanted for questioning in the April shooting death of Joseph Harris, 23, of Fresno.

Police said Harris and two passengers were in a vehicle at West Dakota and North Hughes avenues at 12:17 a.m. April 3 when another vehicle pulled up next to theirs. A person in the other vehicle fired several rounds into Harris' vehicle.

Harris was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died soon after.

A passenger in Harris' vehicle was struck once and was treated and released. The other passenger was not injured.

Anyone with information on Rios' whereabouts or the homicide can call detective Chris Serrano at (559) 621-2452 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP.

Courts

Ex-Kerman official pleads guilty to porn

Kerman's former building official, Kent Arthur Cox, 49, changed his plea on two child pornography charges to guilty during a hearing Friday in U.S. District Court.

Cox is charged with distributing child pornography and transferring obscene material online to a person younger than 16.

He was arrested in February after a 2005 investigation by law enforcement officials in Kenner, La. He appeared in court in a red jail jumpsuit with shackles around his wrists and feet.

Judge Lawrence O'Neill set sentencing for Jan. 22. Cox could face up to 30 years in prison.

1995 slaying suspect appears at hearing

A preliminary hearing began Friday in Fresno County Superior Court for Jaime Morales, 53, accused in the deaths of two men and the attempted murder of another man and his then-15-year-old daughter at a cockfight in the Parlier area in 1995.

Testimony may conclude Monday, said Deputy District Attorney Michael Frye.

Morales is accused of shooting Porfirio Silva Gutierrez, 23, of Selma, and Rodimiro Quiroz, 27, of Parlier when a fight broke out after the cockfight at a Super Bowl party.

Louisa Silva, 28, testified Friday. She was shot in the hand during the melee, and her father, Manuel Silva Sr., also was injured. Gutierrez was her uncle.

Outside court, defense attorney Scott Baly said Morales was arrested in Arizona in July on a warrant in connection with the killings. He was returned to Fresno County this month.

Health

Take care, help keep Halloween healthy

Health officials are asking parents not to take children who are ill out "trick or treating" this Halloween.

Children and adults who have chronic medical conditions and are at risk of serious illness from swine flu should be cautious about participating in Halloween activities as well, Tulare County health officials said.

People can stay healthy by washing their hands frequently, using antiseptic gels, avoiding touching their nose, eyes and mouth, and covering their cough and sneeze, officials said.

Symptoms of swine flu or H1N1 influenza include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, headache, vomiting and diarrhea.
