Fresno police arrested 11 men Friday during a one-day operation designed to curtail prostitution in southwest Fresno. The operation took place mainly on Belmont Avenue.
Eight of the men were arrested on suspicion of soliciting for prostitution, and the three others were arrested on a charge of loitering for the purpose of prostitution. The men ranged in age from 26 to 53.
Police targeted prostitution in the area, Chief Jerry Dyer said, because "many gang members use prostitutes as a means to make money for their illegal activity."
