A man was booked into a New Jersey jail over the weekend for alleged involvement in a shooting at a Fresno restaurant two weeks ago that seriously injured one of the owners.
Monmouth County Jail officials said Cauro Sanchez, 35, of Asbury Park, N.J., was arrested Saturday.
He was booked on suspicion of being a fugitive from California after a shooting in Fresno seriously injured Corina Hernandez, 40, of Clovis, a co-owner of Corina's Super Mercado and Taqueria near Willow Avenue and Kings Canyon Road. His bail is $750,000.
He also was booked on several other counts, including an Immigration and Naturalization Services hold, a jail spokesman said Monday.
Hernandez was shot March 10 at her business. A man entered the store and asked in Spanish to cash a check, police said. He was sent to Hernandez, who was working in a back office. The man pulled out a gun and fired at least one shot, hitting her in the face.
The suspect, later identified as Sanchez, left the restaurant in a pickup with a Pennsylvania license plate.
Detectives learned that Sanchez left Fresno the day after the robbery and went to New Jersey. He was found and arrested.
Sanchez is awaiting extradition back to Fresno, where he will be booked on suspicion of attempted homicide and armed robbery.
Hernandez was released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
SoCal man charged with stealing at Home Depots
A Southern California man was arrested Sunday in Fresno in a string of thefts from Home Depot stores over the past three months, Fresno police said.
Abraham Sanchez, 25, is a suspect in more than a dozen thefts that have been captured on surveillance cameras at Home Depots throughout California.
Sanchez was captured Sunday by store security at the Shaw and Feland avenues store in Fresno.
In 15 thefts, Home Depot officials allege that Sanchez and his partner took about $20,000 in merchandise by removing high-priced lawn equipment through secluded store exits.
Fresno police Sgt. Anthony Dewall said Sanchez and an accomplice took items from stores in Fresno, Clovis, Selma, Visalia and Bakersfield.
Police say Sanchez was seen on video cameras, but he typically would have someone waiting in a vehicle for him and they would make their getaway before security could reach them.
Sanchez matched surveillance photos provided by Home Depot, said police, who do not have an identity of the second suspect.
