End of the Fast Celebration
A 21-day fast that many Fresno and Clovis churches encouraged will come to an end with an End of the Fast Celebration from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31 at Fresno Pacific University’s special events center at Winery and Hamilton avenues in Fresno.
The fast was intended as a spiritual practice to help people begin the year with a focus on God and God’s goals for people’s lives.
Author to keynote men’s fellowship dinner
A dinner for the Men’s Fellowship of the First Armenian Presbyterian Church of Fresno on Tuesday, Feb. 9 will feature keynote speaker Ellen Sarkisian Chesnut. The native of Iraq is an author, teacher and artist who will talk about the mysteries of the silk trade in pre-genocide Armenia.
The dinner, lecture and a visual presentation will be held in the church’s fellowship hall, 430 S. First St., Fresno. Armenian appetizers will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by a barbecue steak and chicken dinner at 7 p.m.
St. Joseph’s Rummage Sale
The Ladies’ Guild of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mariposa will hold its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, in the church’s parish hall, 4985 Bullion St., Mariposa.
The sale will include housewares, clothing, sewing and craft supplies, toys, books, videos, CDs, sports equipment, tools, small furniture and other items.
Saint Agnes Holy Cross Center for Women receives $90,000 gift
The Saint Agnes Women’s Club donated $90,000 to Saint Agnes Holy Cross Center for Women at a club luncheon Jan. 11. The center offers educational programs and respite for homeless and low-income women and their children. Money was raised through fundraising events in 2015.
The donation will help fund educational programs, such as a six-week summer program for children, pay for clothing and diapers, and allow the center to purchase three industrial-size washers. The center does around 2,900 loads of laundry every year.
