Eating Out: News bites on Pardini's Cafe, Deli Delicious

There's so much happening on the restaurant beat lately that I need to dedicate a column to sharing all these newsy tidbits. Think of it as a chef salad of restaurant news.

Pardini's Cafe

Pardini's Cafe closed Tuesday, but it's not the end for the decades-old restaurant.

Note: I'm talking about the cafe — not Pardini's catering business and banquet hall, which are both continuing on as normal.

The cafe at 2257 W. Shaw Ave. will be remodeled and reopen in early 2015 as an Italian-inspired restaurant. The Pardini family decided the restaurant needed a change.

Jimmy Pardini, son of restaurateur Jim Pardini, will be the chef at the new restaurant, which doesn't have a name yet. He will bring his Italian cooking background to the menu, which will include lots of pasta, wood-fired pizza, steak and other meats.

It will be open for lunch and dinner and probably brunch on weekends.

And the restaurant will look very different. The booths will be ripped out and replaced with tables and a counter. The new place also will have a bar.

Deli Delicious

The first Deli Delicious sandwich shop in downtown Fresno is gearing up to open. The shop at 970 N St. is just down the street from the Galleria restaurants and around the corner from the Kern Street Starbucks.

It should open within a week or so, and will provide yet another dining option for downtown workers and others.

There are a lot more Deli Delicious restaurants headed for our area. Stay tuned for more information on that company.


Clovis is getting two new Mediterranean restaurants in the coming weeks.

One is Doy Grill, at Herndon and Fowler avenues, between Cold Stone Creamery and Starbucks. The restaurant is scheduled to open in mid-July.

Owner Nevzat Ozder says it's like a Chipotle for Mediterranean food, where diners can customize each part of their dish. Each meal comes with baklava for dessert.

The other is Tofas Mediterranean Grill, headed for both Clovis and Fresno.

Both locations are Mediterranean fast casual restaurants. The first is scheduled to open during the second week of July at the Clovis Crossing Regional Shopping Center at Herndon and Clovis avenues.

The second will open in the Campus Pointe project near Fresno State.


In January I told you Dickey's Barbecue Pit planned to open eight locations in the Fresno area. Now we know where a few of them are going.

The Dallas-based barbecue joint known for its slow-smoked style will open a restaurant in January in the Marketplace at El Paseo, the new shopping center near Highway 99 and Herndon Avenue.

A Clovis location is in the works for the southwest corner of Herndon and Fowler.

Expect to hear about one coming to Madera soon, too.

Dickey's already has two locations in Visalia and one each in Porterville and Hanford.

Business partners Kevin Roche and Bryan Roche own the Hanford Dickey's and ran KFC restaurants in the area before becoming Dickey's franchisees.


Tulare is getting a Chipotle. The fast-casual Mexican chain will open at 1008 E. Prosperity Ave. in late summer, according to the company.
