Everything from leopard-print platform heels to children's sneakers are for sale at the newly opened WSS Shoes. Style. Selection.
The store, at 4789 Kings Canyon Road near Chestnut Avenue, is the first of up to five stores the Los Angeles-based company plans to open in the Fresno area.
The company has 61 stores in Southern California and Bakersfield and sells online at www.shopwss.com. It is still finalizing the other Fresno-area locations, but may open a store near Blackstone and Shaw avenues, says store manager Moises Jaimes.
The shoe store — at 12,000 square feet, it's a big one — sells men's, women's and children's shoes and clothing. It doesn't call itself a discount store, but it's "way more affordable than the mall," Jaimes says. Shoes include dress shoes, casual and athletic. In the women's section, you'll find knee-high boots for $24.99 and two for $35 flats. In the men's, you'll find Jordan and Nike sneakers, including the popular new releases that customers line up for.
The stores sell a limited amount of clothing and accessories — ranging from women's jackets to Hello Kitty backpacks. Selling clothing with the shoes allows customers to complete their outfits in one store, Jaimes says.
If you actually didn't mind getting up at 3 a.m. to go Black Friday shopping, check this out: Kohl's will be open 24 hours a day starting Dec. 20 for late-night shopping.
This extreme version of holiday hours is the first time Kohl's will be open for 100 hours straight, from 6 a.m. that day through 6 p.m. Dec. 24. The extended hours are geared toward procrastinators, though I expect there might be some swing shift workers and overburdened mommies shopping then, too.
Fashion Fair app
Fashion Fair mall has a new app with some handy features. If you're wondering which stores sell yoga pants — or any other product — you can type or speak it into your smartphone and the app tells you which stores sell them.
It also tells you which retailers are having sales.
It has a parking tab that allows you to save the GPS coordinates of your parking space on your phone, take a picture of where you parked, or make a verbal or written note of the location.
It has all the regular features too, including a directory and map, event listings, etc. Download the free app from your phone's App Store.
Ficklin online store
Madera-based Ficklin Vineyards opened a store selling its wines and kitchen products in midtown Sacramento. That's a little far for locals, but the Ficklin-Wilcox store has added an online version.
The online store is at www.ficklinwilcox.com and the store's name refers to the two families who run the business.
