It’s National Donut Day Friday, June 3.
Mayor Ashley Swearengin tweeted out this pic of Police Chief Jerry Dyer doing what cops do so well: Eating a doughnut. It had the caption “Happy National Donut Day, Fresno!”
This post was going to be all about places you get free doughnuts (Yep, stodgy newspaper rules ban us from spelling it “donut”) today except none of those doughnut shops are here yet.
Krispy Kreme is giving away free doughnuts nationwide, but has just barely started construction on its Fresno location on Blackstone Avenue near Bullard Avenue. (The construction you see happening there now is mostly for a different building that will hold three restaurants. Krispy Kreme will be in a closer to McDonald’s.)
Dunkin’ Donuts is giving away a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any drink, but they’re not here yet either. Hanford Mall is getting a Dunkin’ Donuts. And the company has said it’s looking for franchisees in the Fresno are. My reporter Spidey sense tells me we’ll be hearing news from them soon.
So, that leaves you with the local doughnut places. I haven’t heard of any of them doing free doughnuts, but Donut Fantasy is selling $1 doughnuts while supplies last. This is the place at Bullard and West avenues that tops doughnuts with funky things like hot Cheetos, potato chips and Lucky Charms.
And Clovis Donuts is encouraging people to stop by for one of their doughnuts or cronut-like concoctions filled with cream and fruit.
