The spring shopping binge is upon us.
New looks are in the stores and the warm weather has Fresno-area shoppers snapping them up earlier than ever.
So what are shoppers buying? What's trendy?
A little bit of everything. White and ivory. Black and white. Floral. A smidge of mint and coral and a lot of echoes of years past.
Never miss a local story.
Floral clothing is everywhere at stores — on skirts, dresses, tops and head bands. It's a little reminiscent of years past. Think Molly Ringwald's floral prints in "Pretty in Pink," but much more form fitting.
"People love floral," says Ani Tateosian, who manages the Ooh La La stores at River Park and Willow and Nees avenues in Clovis. The company also runs the lower-priced Lola store in River Park.
"Every spring there's some floral that's popular," she says. "It's still going strong."
Locally owned Ooh La La sells a one-piece blue and white romper with flowers on it for $39.99. Not everybody can pull off wearing a romper, though the taller you are the easier it gets. For the non-models among us, flowers are also splashed across skirts and dresses, especially maxi dresses from Forever 21.
Color is always big in spring, but it's a surprising shade that is popular this year — white, says Victoria Saulovich, owner of the area's three Stella Laguna Beach stores and Khloe California boutiques.
"White is the hottest color," she says. "There's a mad rush for all things white."
At her stores, white skirts, dresses and tops are selling well. Often, they're flowy or lacy and have a bit of a bohemian vibe, she says.
Macy's is selling white clothing for all ages, but offers more work-appropriate looks and clothing for those who don't want to dress like teens.
White tops are popular and it's not the plain old white button-down of years past, says Martin Oftedal, manager of Macy's by Appointment at the Fashion Fair store.
They have mesh, lace, pleating, cutouts and embellishments such as jewels or appliques. Since they're white, they can be dressy or casual, he says.
"There's a lot of details on these blouses," he said. "It's effortless and ethereal. It looks pure."
At Macy's, white is often paired with black.
Shoppers will also see coral and mint shades of clothing at many stores, a continuation of last year's trends. The coral is morphing into orange and shades of pink, including hot pink.
Macy's sells motorcycle jackets in pink. Singer Jennifer Lopez has a brand of clothing at Kohl's that features lots of pink, ranging from soft pink to bright fluorescent pink.
