Four-year-old Alexandria Telesmanic of Clovis has been named a Jr. Got Milk? Chef.
Telesmanic, the daughter of Christopher and Shayna Telesmanic, is one of five young California chefs being featured in the organization’s summer campaign focusing on creating kid-friendly foods.
Alexandria’s contribution is peanut butter and banana sushi, a fun and simple dish that uses sliced bananas as the inside of the faux sushi.
Shayna Telesmanic, owner of Young Chefs Academy Fresno, said Alexandria was introduced to cooking when she was a baby and has learned to prepare food by combining and mixing ingredients.
Experts say that exposing children to cooking at home helps them develop a taste for fresh and nutritious foods.
“What better way to keep kids engaged in the summer than by allowing them to express their creativity in the kitchen,” said Steve James, executive director of the California Milk Processing Board, creators of the “Got Milk?” campaign.

Peanut butter and banana sushi
By Shayna and Alexandria Telesmanic
1 large banana
½ cup of peanut butter or almond butter
1 tablespoon of honey
Pinch of cinnamon
1 slice of bread
Take a slice of bread and flatten it out using a rolling pin. Spread peanut butter or almond butter across the flattened piece of bread. Drizzle honey over the bread and sprinkle cinnamon on top. Lay the banana across the bread and roll up the piece of bread like a sushi roll. Cut into small round slices, just like sushi, and serve with a glass of milk.
Optional: To enhance the eating experience, swap your fork with chopsticks.
