Betsey Cahen Kauffman of Fresno loves to dabble in her kitchen. So when this farmer’s wife and mother was looking for something fruity with a bit of a zing, she created chutney made from fresh nectarines. The chutney was so tasty, Kauffman was encouraged to market the product and soon Betsey’s Organic Nectarine Chutney was born.
The savory chuntney pairs well with cheese, and as an accompaniment to curries, poultry, shrimp and lamb.
“I have always enjoyed cooking curry and Indian food and this provides a nice sweet and spicy balance,” she says.
One of Kauffman’s favorite uses for the chutney is to pour it over warmed brie and serve it on a baguette.
“I think it gives a lot of elegance to something simple, especially when someone drops by and you haven’t planned anything,” she says.
An 8-ounce jar of Betsey’s Organic Nectarine Chutney retails for $11.95 and can be found at California Gourmet Company/Bouquet of Fruits, 2015 W. Bullard Ave.; We Olive of Fresno, Fig Garden Village Shopping Center, 722 W. Shaw Ave.; and www.mouth.com.
