Uber may not be able to deliver you to Fresno Yosemite International Airport, but pretty soon you can get delivery of your favorite combination pizza to your home, office or any place you like.
UberEATS is coming to the Fresno/Clovis area.
The food delivery service is expected to launch by the end of the month. Uber started the service a little more than a year ago with just 1,000 restaurants in four cities. It now has 40,000 participating restaurants in more than 70 cities worldwide.
How does it work? It’s fairly simple: Download the UberEATS app and you can look for restaurants by name, speed of delivery, price or dietary concerns, according to UberEAT’s website.
And just like ordering Uber for a ride, you can track your food on the app from the time it leaves the restaurant to when it arrives at your door. The delivery fee is $3.99 and about 30 restaurants have signed up so far.
At least one Clovis restaurant owner is thrilled about the service.
Millennials are always on their phones. Now they can use Uber to deliver food.
Darrell Dahlberg, one of the owners of Double Play Pizzeria in Clovis
Darrell Dahlberg, one of the owners of Double Play Pizzeria at 2794 Willow Ave. said this could be a “game changer” for the restaurant. The pizzeria already delivers but only within a two-mile radius.
“I already get requests from as far away as the Kings Canyon and Sunnyside area, so this will help us expand our customer base,” Dahlberg said.
Dalhlberg expects the service to do well, especially among younger clients.
“Millennials are always on their phones and they use Uber all the time because it’s cool and they are tech savvy,” he said. “Now they can use Uber to deliver food.”
