Last spring, Target scored big with its collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer.
This spring, it looks like the retailer is trying to do the same thing with Marimekko, the Finnish design house known for big, bright florals and geometric patterns that look like Matisse cutouts.
About 200 items from the collection – everything from swimsuits to a child-sized tent – are expected to hit the sales floor on April 17. Prices: From about $8 to $500.
The collection is the most exciting designer collaboration since Target teamed up with Lilly Pulitzer. The demand for that collection was so intense that the retailer’s website crashed, leaving shoppers frustrated.

The playful collection will include outdoor decor items, furnishings and housewares. It will also include swimwear for girls and women.
After some drab collaborations and a seeming lack of fun that the retailer has been known for, Target perked up with its Lilly Pulitzer collection. Its new women’s clothing collaboration with the online fashion magazine Who What Where has been another bright spot for the retailer.
Remember: If you want Marimekko, you’re going to want to shop early and often. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
