Fundraiser will aid crash victim's family

Capo's restaurant is raising money for the family of Matthew Harkenrider, 26, of Clovis, who was killed in a car crash in northeast Fresno earlier this month.

The restaurant, in the Park Place shopping center at Palm and Nees avenues, will donate 20% of its sales from 4 p.m. to close Tuesday to a memorial fund. The fund benefits Harkenrider's daughter and pregnant widow.

The restaurant owners also will donate 20% of takeout sales that night. Reservations are recommended. A family friend of Capo's owners has pledged to match the donation.

Harkenrider's twin brother, Eric, has worked for over a year at Giuseppe Gallo's in Clovis, another restaurant owned by the same family that owns Capo's.

Matthew Harkenrider was killed Aug. 14 in a crash at Fresno Street and Herndon Avenue. Roberta Lynn Soto, 45, is accused of running a red light and hitting Harkenrider's car while high on methamphetamine.

A memorial service for Harkenrider is scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 23 at Hope Lutheran Church.
