"My Boyfriend Barfed in My Handbag … and Other Things You Can't Ask Martha" by Jolie Kerr. This is an unconventional how-to book on cleaning a wide range of objects and stains. Cleaning tips and procedures are accompanied with lighthearted and sometime hilarious stories from the author and her blog readers.

"Guy on Fire: 130 Recipes for Adventures in Outdoor Cooking" by Guy Fieri and Ann Volkwein. This is a collection of recipes and stories gathered from the New York Times best-seller author's tours around the country during the filming of his television show.

"Sugar Changed the World: A Story of Magic, Spice, Slavery, Freedom, and Science" by Marc Aronson and Marina Budhos. Using sugar as the central theme, this book gathers related history, events, religions, people and place.

Road Trips

"Tales of a Female Nomad Living at Large in the World" by Rita Golden Gelman. The author began her modern nomadic living in the country and gradually around the world at the age of 48.

"The Annotated Hobbit: The Hobbit, or, There and Back Again" by J.R.R. Tolkien (illustrated by the author; annotated by Douglas A. Anderson): Alongside the full text of "The Hobbit" and original black and white illustrations, there are short reference notes on the backgrounds and origins of almost all people, places and artifacts in the text.

Reading to a Dog Maggie: Maggie, a certified therapy dog, loves kids and books. She is so happy when you read to her. All children are welcome, 3-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Kerman Branch Library. Details: 846-8804.

Friends of the Auberry Library's Anne Neal Guest Speaker Series: A panel discussion on drought preparedness and water conservation for homes and business.
