Something curious is in store for chamber music fans. The Orpheus chamber ensemble on Sunday, May 17, offers a concert titled “The Old Curiosity Shop.”
The program offers an eclectic offering of musical selections.
Among the lineup:
▪ Pianist Jack Fortner plays John Cage’s “4’ 33”.” The piece captures Cage’s idea that any sounds may constitute music.
Never miss a local story.
▪ Violinists John Morrice and Cynthia Stuart offer the strange and humorous “Spielkanons für Instruments (Four Mirror Canons),” attributed by many to Mozart.
▪ Pianist Andreas Werz plays Erik Satie’s “Embryons desséchés (Dessicated Embryos),” which includes movements dedicated to sea cucumbers, lobsters and crustaceans with immobile eyes.
▪ Mario LaVista’s “Marcias,” performed by oboist Rachel Aldrich and members of the CSUF Composers Guild, is scored for oboe and eight tuned crystal goblets.
If that doesn’t have you smiling (or scratching your head), what will?
