It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the acclaimed Irish pianist Barry Douglas and Fresno have a thing going. His Sunday concert will be the fourth time the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition winner has played with the Philip Lorenz Memorial Keyboard Concerts series. And three of those visits have been within the last five years.
Douglas is recording all the major works for solo piano of both Brahms and Schubert. The first Brahms CD, on the Chandos label, came out in 2012, and the first Schubert was released in 2014. His latest album is “Brahms Vol. 4.”
His Fresno program, the last of the Keyboard season, focuses on Brahms and Schubert, appropriately enough, and includes the Brahms powerhouse work “Variations on a Theme by Paganini in A Minor, Op. 35: Books I and II.”
