The local music scene is running at 100mph this weekend, with seven eye-popping events.
Between an interesting assortment of touring shows, local-fueled benefit concerts and Fresno's growing annual all-local music festival, live music lovers in this town have a lot of listening options.
re:FUSE Festival
The Fresno Urban Sound Experience is back, bigger and better, for its second year.
Dubbed "a one-day celebration and exploration of the city's musical landscape," the festival will showcase more than 40 local musicians in eight downtown venues, mostly along Van Ness Avenue.
Those numbers make it the biggest music festival in Fresno.
Last year the festival was called F.U.S.E. Fest for short, but after some legal hassles from Fuse TV, it has adopted the moniker of Re:FUSE for its second year.
The festival's musical selections are all over the map, ranging from jazz and blues, to punk, rock, rap and ska.
Well-known local acts such as 40 Watt Hype, Suppressors and The Sleepover Disaster are part of the schedule, as are upstart bands like Yesterday's Chonies, The Escorts, Strange Vine and Racelegs.
All the music starts at 4 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m.
New this year is a DJ lounge at The Loft in Fresno Pacific Towers.
Smokehouse and Tokyo Garden are the only venues carried over from last year's four-venue debut.
New to the venue lineup are downtown eateries Hero's and Joe's Steakhouse, as well as Club One Casino.
Probably the most interesting venue is the spiral parking garage, which will serve as the festival's hub.
There's free parking in the garage, plus an outdoor stage has been set up on the top floor.
The parking garage is also where you buy festival tickets. The $15 festival passes grant access to all the venues, allowing for show-hopping.
The full schedule is available online or can be picked up the day of the festival.
There's a festival preview show scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday at Full Circle Brewing Co., 620 F St. It'll feature many of the bands playing Saturday.
Cover is $5, but it's free if you purchase a festival pass.
There's also a Saturday night afterparty scheduled for Tokyo Garden, with more bands playing from the Re:FUSE list.

Let's Go Bowling
Let's Go Bowling -- perhaps the most famous band to come out of Fresno -- is coming out to play this weekend.
The ska band, which made a name for itself up and down California in the late '80s and early '90s, plays rarely these days. They have live shows only a couple times per year.
Saturday night, the group will gather to celebrate its 23rd anniversary with a gig at Audie's Olympic, 1426 N. Van Ness Ave.
Whiskey Avengers and King Sugar also are on the bill. Cover is $10. Showtime is 9 p.m.
National Livestrong Day concert
Local musicians are sharing their talent for a good cause Friday night at Starline, 831 E. Fern Ave.
It's National Livestrong Day, marking the day that cyclist Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with cancer. Livestrong, Armstrong's cancer awareness foundation, has a goal of 1,000 benefit events in cities around the country today.
Fresno's event is loaded with local music, including the blues of MoFo Party Band, the electric violin of Patrick Contreras, the funk of DB & The Struggle and the acoustic folk of Roger Perry.
The doors open at 8 p.m. Cover is $10. There will also be a silent auction and raffle. Details: (559) 930-9020.
Pepe Aguilar and Marco Antonio Solis
Two stars of the Latin music world are combining to share the stage Friday night at Selland Arena.
