Music Roundup: Festival showcases Hmong music

A first-of-its-kind Hmong Music Festival will take place Saturday, May 26 at the Fresno Fairgrounds, bringing together Hmong musicians of various genres and locales.

The all-day festival will include 28 artists performing on two stages. Some acts are from Fresno, such as Fields of Prey and Fourth Seal; some are from Minnesota, such as Destiny and Hilltribe; while others come from around California and the country. Fresno Youth Orchestra festival features international players

Thomas Loewenheim already knows how good his players are in the Youth Orchestras of Fresno. Now he wants the world to know about them, too.

Loewenheim and the organization's executive director, Julia Copeland, came up with a way to make that happen. The first Fresno International Youth Orchestra Festival welcomes 10 overseas students who will join local players on the stage at the festival's big public concert Sunday at the Saroyan Theatre. Valley summer packed with concerts, festivals

Technically, it's not summer yet. But as any Fresnan knows, we don't always play by the rules of seasons here. It's already hot. Likewise, concerts are already lining up. So we figured this was a good time to map out the summer ahead in live music.
