A first-of-its-kind Hmong Music Festival will take place Saturday, May 26 at the Fresno Fairgrounds, bringing together Hmong musicians of various genres and locales.
The all-day festival will include 28 artists performing on two stages. Some acts are from Fresno, such as Fields of Prey and Fourth Seal; some are from Minnesota, such as Destiny and Hilltribe; while others come from around California and the country. There will be pop, rock, hip-hop and more.

Thomas Loewenheim already knows how good his players are in the Youth Orchestras of Fresno. Now he wants the world to know about them, too.
Loewenheim and the organization's executive director, Julia Copeland, came up with a way to make that happen. The first Fresno International Youth Orchestra Festival welcomes 10 overseas students who will join local players on the stage at the festival's big public concert Sunday at the Saroyan Theatre.

Technically, it's not summer yet. But as any Fresnan knows, we don't always play by the rules of seasons here. It's already hot. Likewise, concerts are already lining up. So we figured this was a good time to map out the summer ahead in live music.
Some of this is happening right away -- such as shows from Tab Benoit and Dev, plus popular concert series from Arte Américas, the Sierra Vista Mall and Kiss Country. For other shows, you'll have a few months to plan ahead. Our list includes event through Sept. 22, when fall starts.
