It’s promo day for Days Under Authority and Anthony Yanez is about to head out with a street team to plaster fliers around town.
It’s a bit of old-school hustle, this being the digital age, but one can’t rely on Facebook’s algorithms alone to make sure people know about an event, says Yanez, who plays guitar for the young Fresno rock band.
And the quartet is working all the angles to promote its gig Friday, Jan. 1, at Strummer’s.
“We want to pack the place out,” Yanez says.
Never miss a local story.
The band (Yanez, plus Dom Cassinerio, Zach Corsi and Brenden Bonsell) headlines the night on a bill full of of local rock music that includes the bands Tamerlane, Sometime Yesterday, Cross Street Cypress and Chyna.
Days Under Authority has been playing punk-ish hard rock (with some metal moments) for close to six years and has scored gigs opening for the likes of We Are Harlot and Smashmouth. They also played the main stage at the Summerland Tour festival, one of the local acts supporting American Hi-Fi, Fuel, the Toadies and Everclear. In October, the guys played the Summer Sweat party in downtown Fresno and were part of a local Halloween covers show. They did a set of Three Day Grace songs while dressed as Power Rangers.
“We love the local scene,” Yanez says, though they are working to grow a regional audience. They have recently performed in Walnut Creek and at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma.
The band self-released its debut album,“My Time” in May and is in pre-production for a follow-up. The songs have been sketched out, Yanez says. Now, the band will start testing them out on stage.
“When you play it live and then you play it in the studio, you hear things you may have missed before,” he says.
